The first new release post the COVID-19 lockdown, ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’, did not have a smooth sailing yesterday. Although the box office figures are not out yet something happened which is not in the favour of the film and the cast.
As per reports, the film’s night shows in Mumbai’s Gaiety and Maratha Mandir have been cancelled.
Maratha Mandir and Gaiety, both, would have run the show if there had been about 30 people to see it. This time, we hear, they were ready to make a concession to 15 people. Lekin aaj raat pandrah log bhi nahin aaye, na hi Gaiety mein nahin hi Maratha Mandir mein.
The morning and evening show in these two theatres at least were not all that good either. We have learned that while Maratha Mandir recorded 50-60 people in the earlier shows, Gaiety was pretty low on the count.
In fact, Maratha Mandir had a higher percentage occupancy in its flagship film which it has been running since 25 years- ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’.
When TOI contacted, Managing Director of Gaiety and Maratha Mandir, Manoj Desai confirmed and said, “Yes, this has happened.”
Now, such cancellations are the last thing that producers, actors and theatre owners want when the doors are opened after such a long time.
