Government billboard spreads controversy, goes viral

“Yasmine has become very famous. His sixth resold are available against her will without 25 countries on 103 child pornography sites ”, can be read above and below the image of a young woman carrying a brown paper bag on her head, where it is inscribed “Sexto”.

We quickly understand why the photo of this panel has become so viral, having accumulated over 995 Facebook shares and some 300 comments in less than 24 hours.

FOR ONCE we timidly try to take care of our daughters, could we, I DREAM, address the abusers …

Many Quebeckers are stunned by the fact that once again, shame and blame are being cast on the victim. Why should “Yasmine” have a paper bag on her head to hide, when she is the victim in this fictitious situation?

It is quite astonishing to see that the Quebec government as well as the Canadian government chose such an angle of campaign – which aimed at the base to warn the young people of the dangers of their interactions on line -, whereas there are barely 6 month, the entire province revolted in the wave of denunciations of sexual misconduct and harassment to make a difference.

One thing is certain: Quebec still has a lot of work to do to try to get rid of the culture of rape, by starting by giving more support to victims rather than shaming them.

For the moment, there is no indication that the poster has been withdrawn and no comments have been made by the government entities in charge of this campaign. We also find the same image on the website of this one, www.fullcelebre.org.
