The debut feature about distinctive outsider personalities in Provincetown, Massachusetts will get a theatrical release this year.
Cinema Guild has picked up the U.S. rights to Mischa Richter’s I Am a Town, a debut feature documentary about distinctive outsider personalities in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
I Am a Town debuted as part of the Doc Fortnight at The Museum of Modern Art and is set for a theatrical release in 2021. The film also took its hometown bow at the Provincetown Film Festival Reimagined, a mostly online event that opened with I Am a Town at the Wellfleet Drive-In.
Local Provincetown photographer Richter, whose camera shot of Amy Winehouse graced the cover of her album Back to Black, made the film about the free-spirited community of Provincetown, which includes local artists, outcasts, fishermen, drag queens and spirit guides.
“It’s rare to see a nonfiction debut as assured as Mischa has delivered with I Am a Town. Audiences will be entranced by this film and transported to a little piece of America that is hard to believe exists in 2021,” Cinema Guild president Peter Kelly said in a statement.
I Am a Town is produced by King Bee Productions, Under the Influence Productions and Gidalya Pictures. The distribution deal was negotiated by Kelly of Cinema Guild with Lizzie Nastro and Ryan Hawke.
