9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 6 recap: Jinx

9-1-1 Season 4 reminds us that the ideas of jinxes and superstitions can make or break our days–if we give them the power to do so. And that is precisely what this week’s episode, “Jinx“, dives into. Around Station 118, it’s taboo to say the word “quiet” as it usually always results in the day turning into a whirlwind of chaos.

When a new probie finishes off his first shift and refers to it as quiet it sets off a chain of events that the group believes is a direct result of the guy jinxing it.

And while we’ve seen our fair share of insane and crazy occurrences on the show, I wouldn’t this week surpasses any of them by any means. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t entertaining, but they’ve definitely had crazier things happen on 9-1-1.

This week also pushes Eddie (Ryan Guzman) to move on from the heartbreak of losing his wife, and finally embrace the idea of pursuing a woman he’s had a soft spot for. It’s a nice touch to a rather stressful episode so I was totally here for it.

After learning the truth about his dead brother and the lie his parents and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) told him, Buck (Oliver Stark) decides he’s going to pick up the pieces and move forward. Everyone is naturally reluctant he’ll be able to do so, but as long as he believes it, that’s all that really matters.

9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 6: When superstitions come true

Watching this week’s episode is actually quite hilarious because all the calls are relatively calm compared to episodes in the past. It starts off with getting a call to attend to a man that has taped himself to a billboard. He’s an aspiring rapper and wants the world to know who he is so he tapes himself naked to a billboard with a giant QR code next to him for people to learn more about him.

Station 118 arrives promptly on the scene to what is quite a hilarious scene. At first, the man refuses to come down from the billboard but the tape holding him doesn’t last very long and he starts slipping off. Luckily for him, the team is already waiting with an inflatable landing pod for him. Alls well that ends well for that guy who not only gained some fame and notoriety but succeeded with his outlandish method.

The rest of the calls certainly don’t lack creativity as they take care of a group of clowns while they are exposed to loads of helium. And if you’re wondering whether or not they decided to speak in the squeaky high helium-filled voices then yes, they most certainly did.

9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 6: “I just wanted to help”

The episode’s most intriguing storyline comes when the team realizes there is a man named Brian (Jonathan Patrick Moore) trying to imposter a fireman. He’s been barging in on calls all day dressed up in firefighter gear, and even had access to any calls being made so he could make sure to show up wherever they are going to be.

Brian is finally caught when he calls a food store clerk and tells him to shatter all the windows in the store because there is a gas leak in the building. Captain Nash (Peter Krause) takes note of Brian after Eddie mentioned a “firefighter” he came across earlier. This particular firefighter used ice to help with a burn, which could have proved disastrous for the woman he was trying to help. Side note: This woman just happened to be Christoper’s teacher, the very same one Eddie has a thing for. And as expected, he was her knight in shining armor when she was trying to nurse her burn.

But anyway, Brian runs off when Captain Nash takes note of him and runs off with their station’s truck. Athena (Angela Bassett) and her fellow cops follow him in pursuit, but it is Eddie who eventually talks the guy down and convinces him to bring the truck to a nearby fire.

It turns out Brian just wanted to help out, and after he didn’t pass his firefighter training, he felt defeated and upset. This was his way of trying to do what he could, albeit it being not the best way to go about it. Leave it to Eddie to talk the guy off of a ledge after getting some guidance himself from Captain Nash about moving on.

And with that, a day of jinxes comes to an end with the team heading off to breakfast, and Eddie going on a breakfast date with Christoper’s former teacher. I’m so here for this romance!

Until next week, folks!
