Call of Duty: Warzone – How to Fix ‘Application Stopped Working’ error

Call of Duty: Warzone, since its release back in 2020, has been a massive hit in the battle royale genre. Competing head-to-head with the rivals PUBG and Fortnite, Warzone provides not only great visuals but exceptional action as well. Even the pandemic has been unable to stop the franchise from producing such a massive AAA title taking the gaming community by storm.

Warzone has been decorated with advanced technologies such as Ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS, and cross-play action to capture the hearts of users and set its name in the gaming world. However, everything comes with a catch.

Released over a year ago, Call of Duty is still full of bugs and errors. From game crashing frequently to a server error. Developers fix one error and another one takes place. Since the last update resolved several in-game bugs, PC users have been a victim of the ‘Application stopped working’ issue recently.

was wondering if anyone knows why I keep getting this error, my graphics card is up to date but it keeps happening every time I want to play black ops .

This error pops up during the game and is very annoying for the player. If you are affected by this error, don’t get disappointed as we have gathered some fixes that might help you fix this error and enjoy the non-stop Warzone action.

To fix the ‘Application stopped working’ issue in Call of Duty Warzone, follow the methods below:-

Restart Call of Duty Warzone and run as Administrator

No matter how big the issue is, turning it ‘off and on’ will always fix the problem. This method has become a universal law solving any tech problem. If you encounter this error while playing Warzone, turn off your game. Wait for some time and restart it. Sometimes your game may be hindered by some background processes that are causing it to crash. Restarting the game would kill those and you can resume playing without any interferences.

Before restarting Warzone, try running it in ‘Administrator’ mode. This method will the game more control in the system and it tells your system that the application is safe to run. To run Call of Duty Warzone in Administrator mode, right-click on the shortcut from the desktop, and select ‘Run as Administrator’ from the list of available options.

If the error is still there, we suggest you restart your system. Over time, many processes running in your system memory can cause certain applications to crash while running. This could be due to unwanted processes or cache build-in system memory. Restarting the PC would kill the faulty memory segment and clears all the system cache and refreshes the memory. Try these simple methods, if they are unable to resolve the issues, try following technical fixes.

Update your drivers, look for windows updates

One major reason for game crashing could be your GPU drivers. Day by day games are becoming much more advanced and hence your GPU drivers must also be kept updated to the latest version in order to support gaming. Due to outdated drivers, your game might be crashing. To fix the issue, you immediately need to update your drivers. It can be done via an automatic update but if auto-updates are disabled, try updating drivers from the links below so that your system can handle a load of Warzone to run smoothly.

NVIDIA Graphics Card

There is also an option to update the drivers automatically through a third-party application ‘Driver Easy’. Running Driver easy will automatically get familiar with the system and update the drivers for you. Follow the steps below to update drivers through Drivereasy:-

  • Download and install the Driver Easy.
  • Launch Driver Easy and click the option ‘Scan now’. Driver Easy will scan the computer and check for updates if any.
  • If updates are found, click on the ‘Update’ button and it will download the driver’s updates for you

Once done, restart your system and launch Warzone to enjoy an uninterrupted gaming experience. For further optimizing your system performance, we suggest you look for windows updates as well. Older windows versions may have some bugs that are hindering the game causing it to crash frequently. Updating windows will not only remove bugs but also enhance your PC performance.

Verify game files through Battle Net Client

While downloading the game, your files could be either damaged or missing. These damaged files could cause problems in-game often causing them to crash or freeze. These corrupted files can also affect several in-game modules and processes. Luckily, you can verify Warzone file integrity as well as repair these damaged files using the Blizzard Battle.Net client.  Follow the steps below to verify game files via Battle.net:-

  • Download Blizard client and run it on your system.
  • Click on Call of Duty Warzone in the left window and select ‘Options’
  • Now select ‘Scan and Repair’ from the sub-menu and click ‘Scan now’

This will resume the repairing process and once done, head back and restart the game and see if it fixes your error. Else continue towards the next fix.

Disable Windows Defender or other anti-virus software

Windows defender prevents attacks on your system. During this process, it can block some software to run on your system as well. One reason for your game crashing could be that it has been blocked by your Windows defender. In order to resolve the issues, try to disable windows defender before launching Warzone. To disable windows defender, follow the guide below:-

  • Go to the ‘Settings’ menu. Press ‘Windows button + I’ for a shortcut
  • Look for ‘Update and Security’
  • From the menu on the left, select ‘Windows Security’ and then click on ‘Virus and Threats’
  • Select ‘Manage settings’ and turn off ‘Real-time protection’

If you are using any other anti-virus software, look if it isn’t blacklisting Warzone considering its threat. You need to remove Warzone from the blocked process list and once done, restart your system.

Re-install Warzone on your system

Hardluck if you are reading this fix. If trying all the above methods didn’t work out, it’s time to take the most painful step. Uninstall the game and delete all the files and reinstall Warzone once again. This step could be very helpful as it deletes the bugs associated with the game along with corrupted files and you could install the game afresh. Considering the huge game size and varying connectivity speed, this fix could be a pain for some users but you need to sacrifice something to achieve something right?.

If the error is still there, wait for an official update or patch from the developers or contact Warzone and Acitviision support team on Twitter and pitch your complaint so that they can look into the matter and resolve your issues.
