Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker’s father drowns in Brazil aged 57

Jose Becker, the father of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, has died aged just 57 after drowning in a lake in southern Brazil on Wednesday.

After going swimming at a dam at his holiday home near Rencao de Inferno, Jose was declared missing at around 5pm local time.

Brazilian club Internacional, who both Alisson and his older brother Muriel played for, tweeted their condolences after the news was confirmed.

The club wrote in a statement: ‘It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of José Agostinho Becker, father of our former goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel. Clube do Povo wishes strength to family and friends in this moment of so much pain.’

Alisson, 28, played for Internacional from 2013-16 before moving to Roma, but had been at the club throughout his youth career, joining in 2002.

His brother Muriel, 34, played 198 games for the same team from 2007-17 before moving on and currently plays for Fuminense, like his brother, in goal.
