U2’s Bono and The Edge have teamed up with Dutch DJ Martin Garrix to record the official Euro 2020 anthem.
Garrix took to Twitter to confirm the news in a post saying; “We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For w/ Bono & The Edge – May 14th! #euro2020.”
Fans of the Irish band took to Twitter in delight at the collaboration, with one writing: “the legendary U2! can’t wait to hear the song!!”
Another wrote; “after this release I think it’s time to announce A VEGAS RESIDENCY please!!”, tagging U2.
The Euros will kick off on June 11 and will be played in twelve different countries including the Netherlands (Amsterdam), Germany (Munich), Spain (Bilbao), Denmark (Copenhagen), and Hungary (Budapest).
Dublin’s Aviva Stadium had been due to host four games in the rescheduled tournament, but UEFA last week decided to move those fixtures to Saint Petersburg and London.
The decision was made by the FAI and the Irish Government was unable to guarantee that fans could attend due to current COVID-19 measures in place.
Meanwhile, the anthem by Martin Garrix featuring Bono and The Edge, ‘We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting’, will be released on May 14, 2020.
